We are Family – Ephesians 2
We are Family – Ephesians 2
Ephesians 2 moves from Paul’s intro and prayer in chapter 1. He explains the former state of believers: dead in transgressions. Then he clearly explains that while we were still dead, God, rich in mercy, saved us by grace through faith to do good works He prepared for us in advance.
Through this transformation to life, Gentiles, who were formerly cut off from God’s people, are now included. It is no longer Jews and Gentiles, but those who are saved and those who aren’t. We were excluded from His people as the nation of Israel, but we are all His who are alive in Christ.
We are now one people in peace with one Spirit: His. In that we are blessed with the rich past history of the Jewish people and prophets plus the followers of Christ as apostles. We are being built up as a temple for His Spirit.
1. Dead – former state, separated in transgressions
2. Alive – in Christ, saved by grace through faith for good works
3. Family – all one household of God, a temple for His Spirit
