One Spirit – Ephesians 4:1-6 (NIV)
One Spirit – Ephesians 4:1-6 (NIV)
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
I love sections/chapters like this: text that hits with some application. After all the powerful build up and hype from the earlier chapters, I’m ready to go for a run! What should we DO?
Paul says live a life worthy of the calling! YEAH! How?
Be humble and gentle. Ouch, hard to do. That’s why he tells us – because it’s not natural and we need to be told. Be patient. Crazy! Humble, gentle and patient.
Bearing one another in love. So hard.
Keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Man, these feel great, sound great, but so hard!
But, as he says, there is one Spirit in us. We have the same basis for all these things in life: God. One Lord. One faith. We call on the same Father. We can’t do it in our spirit but we can with His. How can humans maintain peace and bear with one another in love with patience? The Spirit.
How can we live a life worthy of the calling? One Spirit.
