Hyper Independence – Key Verses – Galatians (NIV)

Key Verses

6:1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.

I think this verse is a clear instruction that we aren’t meant to chastise and judge those in sin. l think the better translation is caught "by" sin as opposed to the idea of "caught in the act." We do what we can to help them and restore their relationship with God and others.

Also, we need to be careful that, in helping them, we don’t put ourselves in a situation to be caught by sin.

The next verse could be a new thought or related or both. Carry each other’s burdens. Sin certainly is a burden. Regardless of the intended thought or burden, we’re to help one another. It’s Christ-like.

It takes humility to allow others to help. If you think you can do it all alone, you’re kidding yourself. That’s pride and that’s about the worst thing there is. Hyper-independence might be my biggest struggle.
