His Child – Key Verses – Galatians (NIV)
His Child – Key Verses – Galatians (NIV)
4:6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Obviously there are some huge points in these verses. It starts out with the assumption (from previous verses) that we are children of God. On that basis, we also have the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit of God, God himself in Spirit, in us.
I’m not sure "why" he puts this next part but it clarifies this isn’t just a formal relationship of sonship. It’s a personal relationship. "Abba" is the Aramaic term for "daddy" or "papa." It’s not just a formal "Father" but a very personal "daddy" relationship.
We have been changed in our relationship to His child. Previously we were slaves, enemies, foreigners, etc. Now we are children.
And that includes being an heir. But to me, at least today, the child is what I need to be.
