The Hardest Thing – Philippians 4 (NIV)
The Hardest Thing – Philippians 4 (NIV)
Verses 10-13
This short passage has a verse that’s taken out of context more than most. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Actually in the NIV it’s "I can do all this…" NIV is not a literal "word for word" – it’s a balance between that and a paraphrase. So it’s going for the thought.
Paul is not saying he can walk through walls and fly. Though God can do anything, so in that sense, yes, he can. And in that sense you can take it out of context. The context is that Paul can be content in all circumstances.
I’d say that’s harder than flying or walking through walls. If we want to try to measure the effort of God, it’s all the same. There isn’t one thing that’s harder for Him than another. But if we want to measure based on human effort and physics, I’d say changing a human’s heart to be content in any circumstance is the hardest thing ever.
It’s certainly true for me.
