Amen Indeed – Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
Amen indeed. What a prayer! I’d say he prayed for some cool things for the Ephsians. And it’s an awesome way to end the prayer.
For Paul, he just tosses in this little phrase at the end. Something we have memorized and counted on in many stages of life: that God is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine! I guess it should come as no surprise. He created color and we can’t imagine a new color. So it stands to reason that He can do more than we imagine. Which also means He can do more than we ask (we can’t ask what we can’t imagine).
The trick is will He do it? Assuming it’s even good!
Another cool tid bit in there is that it’s according to the same power that is at work within us. This is the power from chapter 1 that is for us (v 19) and that He exerted to raise Christ (v 20). These great details are just used here to identify the "Him" Paul is referring to. The point is glory.
To Him be the glory in the church (v 3:10) and Christ Jesus. For ever and ever!
It’s almost like Paul is praying for all these things – most of which boil down to he hopes the Ephesians know and are close to God. Then he ends it saying above all things may God be glorified forever. It just seems like a great prayer and a great wrapup to remember the point of it all.
