Key Verses

In chapter 2, Paul continues his details about his early experiences in ministry. He went to Jerusalem only after 14 years. While he was there, the apostles didn’t add anything to his message. And later, in Antioch, Paul confronted Peter on his behavior in regard to the Gentiles. A big part of these things is the idea that Paul didn’t go get training from Jerusalem or change anything to get approval by them.

But also that if we are saved by grace through faith, our relationship with the Law has changed. There’s various ways this can work itself out:;

* We can disregard any consequences of our actions and dive head first into a life of sin in the name of freedom. That would promote the argument that Christ promotes sin which we know He didn’t and doesn’t.

* We can live now as righteous and continue in that as followers of the Law with a fresh start. But we can’t uphold the Law so we are, now by choice, breakers of the Law immediately.

* We can die to the Law fulfilling the contract and demands of the relationship or we can die to the Law by associating ourselves with Christ and His death and resurrection.

2:19 “For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
